Kellie Farina sat on the Lindsay Clancy jury. After the mistrial she said the lone holdout "had the hardest time getting off the fact that Lindsay viciously killed her children."
This meme sadly describes the slope we are actually on.
On January 24, 2023, Lindsay Clancy sent her husband Patrick out for takeout and medicine. While he was gone she strangled Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, with exercise bands in the basement of their Duxbury home.
She left the bands around their necks. Then she jumped from a second story window. Callan died three days later.
She does not deny she killed them. She was a labor and delivery nurse. She delivered other women's babies for a living.
Eleven of twelve jurors were ready deliver a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity because she was depressed. The foreperson started filling out the not guilty forms and said she was so excited.
Then that one man still would not vote to excuse it.
The other jurors were mad at him. Mad that he could not get past the fact she viciously murdered her children.
Prosecutor Jennifer Sprague told that jury it was still a choice. "She was depressed. She was exhausted. She was done. She didn't want to try anymore."
Then she said, "She could have just killed herself and left her kids alive."
We used to treat life as sacred. Now a mother can murder three living children and a Massachusetts jury will treat the killings themselves as the part you are supposed to get over.
Depression is real. Murder is still murder. Cora, Dawson, and Callan were not a theory. They were three children, and their mother wrapped bands around their necks and pulled.
That is how far down the slope we have come. It is terribly depressing. It is sad.
Bottom line, we have gone from sacred life to a jury angry at the one man who still called it murder.
Should a mother who strangles her three children be found not noy guilty by reason of insanity because she was depressed?
